Under the guidance of Education Section, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Chinese Students and Scholars Association, United Kingdom(CSSA-UK) is the largest Chinese community in United Kingdom.
Established in 1988, CSSA-UK is a non-political, non-religious and non-profit organization, which organizes, sponsors, and supports various social and cultural activities among Chinese students and scholars in the UK. The association also maintains close connections with the intellectual community in China and other CSSA members across the world.Mission
CSSA-UK is committed to developing unique and attractive programs and activities locally, nationally and internationally. This enables Chinese students and scholars in the UK, and all other individuals who are interested in China and Chinese culture to experience and enjoy a richer, fuller, and more successful life in the UK and beyond. CSSA-UK particularly devotes itself in promoting education and culture exchange between China and the UK through mutual dialogue and collaborative initiatives on a wide variety of issues. It serves as a platform to bridge the gaps between the East and the Western world, and enhance understanding and awareness among the young generation of the two countries.
CSSA-UK has over 90 Subsidiary Associations throughout the UK. Some are based on Higher Educational Establishment such as CSSA at the Imperial College, University College London and London School of Business etc. whilst the rest are set on the basis of large cities or towns where Chinese students concentrate. This includes Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Birmingham, Manchester, Cardiff and Belfast etc.
We have over 100,000 registered members with approximately 30,000 fresh students arriving in the UK from China each year (source from Home Office). CSSA-UK is steered by an electoral based standing committee who overlook the work of various working groups appointed by the president each year. The CSSA-UK Congress is the highest decision-making body of the organisation which Chinese Students and Scholars Association United Kingdom is held once a year to vote for presidency, membership of the standing committee and other significant issues put forward by delegates.
